Tropical Animals

One afternoon, when the sun was at its highest point, the crocodile, the hippo, the tiger and the giraffe heard a strange sound in the distance. ‘What on earth is that?’ they asked each other. The giraffe stretched her neck as far as she could, but she didn't see anything. ‘We need to be taller,’ they all said. The crocodile asked the hippo to climb on his back. ‘Do you see anything?’ all the others asked. But he shook his head. So the tiger jumped onto his back and did his utmost best to see where the sound was coming from, but they were still not tall enough. Then the giraffe carefully climbed onto the tigers back.

‘What do you see?’ they all asked. ‘I am not sure,’ said the giraffe, ‘it must be the sound of the earth spinning on its axes again, because the earth does that you know.

This series of wooden animals is made of obeche wood and finished with carnauba wax, both child friendly materials. Obeche wood is light in color, ranging from creamy white to a pale yellow. This very lightweight hardwood species is native to west-central Africa. Carnauba wax is a wax of the leaves of the palm Copernicia prunifera, a plant native to and grown only in the north-eastern part of Brazil.

Polar Animals

One night, when the moon was almost full and the snow looked as if it was blue, the whale, the polar bear, the seal and the penguin heard a strange sound in the distance. ‘What on earth is that?’ they asked each other. The penguin stretched her neck as far as she could, but she didn't see anything. ‘We need to be taller,’ they all said. The whale asked the polar bear to climb on his back. ‘Do you see anything?’ all the others asked. But he shook his head. So the seal jumped onto his back and did his utmost best to see where the sound was coming from, but they were still not tall enough. Then the penguin carefully climbed onto the seal's back.

‘What do you see?’ they all asked. ‘I am not sure,’ said the penguin, ‘it must be the sound of the earth spinning on its axes again, because the earth does that you know.

Left-over animals

The outlines of these creatures are inspired by the curving shapes of left-over pieces of wood we have been collecting over time. Using these pre-existing shapes, we found all sorts of strange, sweet and funny animals.

Forest on Wheels

Deep in the forest, under the shade of a dense canopy of leaves, lived a rabbit, a wood mouse, a hedgehog, an owl and a squirrel. They were not like the animals you might know from pictures or real life. No, these ones were different. They didn’t walk, run or fly, they didn’t even crawl; they were moving on wheels. Although they  were not like any other animals in the forest, they were

perfectly happy with their strange pair of feet. They thought rolling around was quite a pleasant way of moving.

This is a series of five separate forest animals on wheels. They are made of beech wood, painted with a certified natural paint and finished with carnauba wax.
